The organic wash and its preparation

The fruits and vegetables at the supermarket may look inviting and fresh but that may only be part of the story. The best strategy is to assume that all kinds of pesticides, little insects and dirt lie hidden on the surface and that will probably be the correct assumption. Once the produce is safe in the kitchen it is a good idea to wash the fruits and vegetables with a solution called the organic wash. Using just plain tap water will clean them fairly well but it is a good idea to add some acid from natural sources. This will add some powerful disinfecting properties using vinegar and lemon. The organic wash that will result will do a great job in cleaning the fruits and vegetables safely and inexpensively.

First a spray bottle is needed, which can be purchased inexpensively at a local variety store. Next slice a lemon in half and squeeze one tablespoon of lemon juice into the bottle. By using lemon juice a natural disinfectant is being applied.

Next add to the spray bottle 2 tablespoons of vinegar and one cup of water. Additional disinfectant qualities are available with the vinegar.

Now with the top fixed tightly on the spray bottle, shake the contents rapidly until the contents are well mixed.

Now that the mixing procedure is completed the fruits and vegetables can be sprayed with the organic wash. Once finished with the spray the fruits and vegetables are ready for preparation and cooking.

This is an easy and inexpensive way to prepare the organic wash and it can be assured that the mixture is truly organic. Even though produce looks great in the store it does not mean that it is completely clean. There are so many possibilities of germs, pesticides and dirt being present that precaution should be taken to remove these items. This is a good step to take to eliminate this problem.
